Mayor Nutter today extended a personal apology to the woman who was "cold-cocked" Sunday by a Philadelphia police officer.

Nutter said that he had seen the video of the incident 20 times and "every time I watch it, I am appalled, I am sickened, and I am ashamed on behalf of the good men and women of the Philadelphia Police Department."

He said he fully supported Police Commisioner Charles H. Ramsey's decision to fire the officer, Lt. Jonathan Josey. Ramsey said it was possible that Josey could face criminal counts, but said it was up to the District Attorney's office to press charges.

Josey's punch to the woman's face knocked her to the ground and bloodied her face. The incident was captured Sunday on a cellphone video recorded at Fifth and Lehigh during a raucous, crowded celebration of the city's annual Puerto Rican Day parade.

After being punched, the woman, Aida Guzman of Chester, was arrested for disorderly conduct after police said they thought she was throwing liquid at a group of officers. On Wednesday, D.A. Seth Williams dropped the charges against Guzman.
