Maryland Deputy Sheriff Killed In Cruiser Crash

A single-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a Harford County (Md.) Sheriff’s Deputy early Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

A single-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a Harford County (Md.) Sheriff’s Deputy early Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

According to the Baltimore Sun, a newspaper covering the area, identified the officer as Corporal Charles B. Licato, 34, a 14-year veteran of the sheriff’s office who was assigned to the Apprehension Unit of the Services and Support Bureau.

The sheriff’s office said the crash occurred on Conowingo Road, Route 1 in Darlington at about 2:30 a.m. at the end of the corporal’s shift. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Officer Down Memorial Page, Cpl. Licata is just the third member of the sheriff's office to be killed in the line of duty in the history of the agency, which dates to 1774.
