Aug. 31--Carlsbad police are looking into the mysterious deaths of two cats, whose bodies were left near Bryan Circle in the northern part of Carlsbad.

"We don't know what to make of it right now, but we are taking the matter seriously," Carlsbad Police Lt. Jennifer Moyers said.

Moyers said that it appeared that both cats were killed in the same way: a gun shot wound and the internal organs removed. Moyers said that police are not sure what motive might be behind the two similar killing, but said they suspect that the cats were killed somewhere else before being brought to the places where they were found.

The first cat was found Aug. 14 near the 1500 block of Grant, and the second was found Wednesday after police took a call reporting a number of turkey vultures swarming Bryan Circle Park. Police say the second cat's injuries appeared to be very similar to the first and they suspect the two cases are linked.

The case has been handed over to detectives and the police department plans on talking to a number of suspects in hopes of finding out the who and why behind the two killings.
