Aug. 21--MANASSAS, Va. -- A Manassas man charged in connection with a hit-and-run on Wednesday tried to escape from jail and assaulted a corrections officer on Friday, authorities said.

Joshua Lamar Pendleton tried to escape from the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center, 9320 Lee Ave. in Manassas, at 5:18 p.m. as another inmate was about to be released through a door, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

A jail officer tried to stop Pendleton from leaving out of the same door, but Pendleton hit him in his shoulder, officers said. Nobody was hurt.

Pendleton, 25, of 8501 Brigade Lane, was charged with assault & battery on correctional officer and attempted escape with force, Perok said.

On Wednesday, Pendleton tried to kick in the door at a home in the 13800 block of Tartan Hills Parkway in Bristow and then led police on a brief chase near Tartan Hills Parkway and Sudley Manor Drive at 9:46 p.m. Wednesday, Perok said.

Pendleton, while ignoring police sirens and lights, ran a red light and hit a car at the intersection of Va. 28 and Piper Lane near Nokesville, according to Perok.

Pendleton was charged with attempted burglary, felony eluding, felony hit and run, driving under the influence of drugs and driving on a revoked license on Wednesday, Perok said.

He was held without bond in both cases and his court dates are unknown.
