The extent of their injuries is not known.

The trooper's patrol car was traveling west on rain-slickened N.C. 27, about two miles west of the Benson limits, and a van was traveling east when one of the vehicles apparently crossed the center line and the two collided, patrol spokesman Jeff Gordon said. It is unclear which vehicle crossed the line.
