A single-vehicle crash early Friday morning left a Geneva County Sheriff's deputy injured and hospitalized.
Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward said Deputy Sheriff Cole Mock was in stable condition at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He said Mock was being moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital Friday morning. Ward said Mock suffered some head injuries.
"He apparently hydroplaned on Highway 52, went off the road, clipped a light pole and hit two trees," Ward said.
Ward said Mock's injures stemmed from a crash, which happened around 4:20 a.m. on Alabama Highway 52 between Geneva and Samson. Ward said Mock was on duty in his patrol car and was headed home toward Samson.
Ward said troopers with the Alabama State Highway Patrol responded and are investigating the crash.
Ward said Mock had stopped by the Geneva Police Department to drop off some evidence, and waited there for some of the rain to pass from an early morning thunderstorm.
"There's a section over there on 52 that holds some of the rain and apparently it slung him off the road," Ward said.
