MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police took a driver into custody Sunday night, after he led officers on a chase through Madison.

Police said witnesses reported a vehicle was driving very slowly on S. Stoughton Road at around 7 p.m.

Officers were able to contact the driver, but police said the vehicle suddenly took off. Officers chased the vehicle, but speeds did not go over 30 miles per hour.

The vehicle traveled onto the Beltline and stop spikes were deployed successfully. Police said the vehicle kept driving on its tire rims, until the vehicle spun out into a ditch and hit a squad car.

The suspect's vehicle went up in smoke, according to police.

Officers took the driver into custody and no one was injured.

Westbound Beltline traffic was temporarily diverted from the Verona Road exit, while officers cleaned up the scene.
