Feb. 14--MERIDIAN -- A man who apparently liked using a mask made famous in the movies was charged in two recent armed robbery incidents in Meridian.
Jerry Jones, 33, of 4505 North Mitthoefer Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested around 2 p.m. Friday, just after he is said to have robbed two stores in the Meridian area.
Mike Vick, public information officer for the MPD, said because the suspect wore the same outfit on both occasions, detectives believed the two robberies were the work of one individual. In addition, one of the items Jones chose to use to try and hide his identity was the "Scream" mask, a spooky but unmistakable prop from a series of popular horror movies in recent years.
Bond has been set at $50,000 for each count.
Vick said at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, a man dressed in brown coveralls and wearing a "Scream" mask, pulled a handgun on the clerk and robbed the Cefco convenience store on Highway 19 South. The suspect made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
At about 6:10 a.m. Friday, a man dressed in brown coveralls and wearing a "Scream" mask, robbed the Paradise Food Mart located at 4432 20th Street. The only difference in this particular incident is that the suspect took the entire cash register, Vick said.
No one was injured during the incidents, officials said.
