Louisiana Deputy Killed in Head-On Crash

Calcasieu Parish Deputy Randall L. Benoit was killed in a head-on collision in Carlyss Wednesday morning on Highway 27 around 8 a.m.

A Calcasieu Parish deputy was killed in a head-on collision in Carlyss Wednesday morning, according to The Southwest Daily News.

Deputy Randall L. Benoit, 41, was involved in the collision on Highway 27 around 8 a.m.

Officials said an unidentified driver crossed the center line and smashed head-on into the deputy's vehicle.

Benoit -- an 18-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office -- was working in the Civil Division when the crash occurred.

"Our hearts are heavy this morning with the passing of Randy," Sheriff Tony Mancuso said. "He was a great asset to our department and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult time."

Louisiana State Police is currently investigating the crash.
