SPARTANBURG, S.C. --
Police are searching for a man suspected of shooting a Spartanburg County sheriff's deputy in the face after a car chase.
The sheriff's office says Deputy Brad James was shot twice after trying to pull a driver over late Sunday night. The driver didn't stop, resulting in a chase that ended when the suspect crashed his car.
Investigators say that after a struggle with the suspect, James was shot near his right eye and in the hip. Sheriff Chuck Wright says his deputy has undergone surgery and is expected to recover from his wounds.
James also fired his weapon, and police believe the suspect may have been wounded.
The suspect is described as a black man standing around 6-feet tall and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
