A Houston motorcycle officer working an extra job was hurt when a telephone line was pulled down by the 18-wheeler he was escorting.

HOUSTON --

A police officer was hurt while working an extra job Thursday.

Houston police said the officer was on a motorcycle and escorting an 18-wheeler on Wayside Drive near Avenue R about 1:45 p.m.

The 18-wheeler hit some phone lines, officials said. The phone lines then hit the officer, knocking him off the motorcycle.

The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Phone company officials said there was about $20,000 worth of damage, and they'll likely bill the driver for the repairs.
