Two Missouri Officers Injured in Crash Following Chase

Two Kansas City, Mo., police officers were injured during a high-speed pursuit Wednesday evening on 71 Highway.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Two Kansas City, Mo., police officers were injured during a high-speed pursuit Wednesday evening on 71 Highway.

Officers said the pursuit began as a traffic stop on northbound 71 Highway in south Kansas City. Investigators said the vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic with its headlights off.

During the pursuit, officials said a patrol car with two officers inside crashed on 71 Highway near Truman Road. Paramedics said an ambulance was called for the injured officers but their conditions have not been released.

Police said while rescue crews attended to the officers, the driver of the car reversed course and drove south on 71 Highway. Officers said the driver still had the car's lights turned off.

Investigators said the driver exited 71 Highway at Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard, drove into the grass median and crashed.

Rescue crews said two people inside the car were injured. Police took them into custody. The extent of their injuries was not released.
