LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. --

Officials with the Logan County Sheriff's Office sid deputies searching for Carlton Hightower Jr. caught him with the help of search dogs in the Grayrock community.

Jail officials said 35-year-old Hightower escaped at about 10:30 a.m on Sunday.

Hightower was in the jails back yard when he escaped. Deputies said the yard covered by a brown fence is monitored with surveillance cameras, but due to a low budget only two staff members were on duty. They were not in the yard.

"At the same time that this was happening the dispatcher was answering a 911 call. Their efforts were concentrated on getting someone help. The jailer was busy getting our meals prepared," said chief deputy David Spicer.

Hightower scaled the brown fence and took off on foot deputies said.

Deputies said there had been sightings of Hightower in the Grayrock community north of Paris.

"A Paris police officer spotted him in a field there and he fled on foot," Spicer said.

Hightower had been spotted, possibly wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt earlier in the day.

Officials were searching a wooded area near the Grayrock community with dogs when Hightower was caught. Higthower was brought back to the Logan County Jail by deputies and Arkansas State Police.

According to the Logan County jail website, Carlton was in the jail facing charges of public intoxication, felon in possession of a firearm and obtaining controlled substance by fraud.

Deputies said he will also face charges of escape.
