Nebraska Bank Robbery Suspect Assaults Detective

Police said a bank robbery suspect assaulted a detective who was trying to arrest him Monday.

OMAHA, Neb. --

Police said a bank robbery suspect assaulted a detective who was trying to arrest him Monday.

Officers were called to the Bank of the West at 19th and Harney streets for a report of a robbery around 11 a.m.

Omaha police said officers spotted a man on foot in the area who matched the suspect's description. When detectives tried to take the man into custody at 17th and Jackson, police said, the man assaulted a detective.

The detective suffered only minor injuries.

Police said the suspect, identified as Derrick Ferrell, 45, had been given an undisclosed amount of money in the robbery.

Ferrell is being held in connection with the robbery.
