LA VISTA, Neb. --

Part of 84th Street is closed near Brentwood Drive in La Vista as police investigate a collision involving an officer and a suspected drunk driver.

La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten said around 7:15 Wednesday night, a driver ran a red light on 84th Street and T-boned a detective who was heading west on Brentwood. The driver's SUV then rolled into southbound lanes of 84th Street.

Lausten said the driver of the vehicle, 38-year-old Jeff Gundersen of Missouri Valley, Iowa, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and careless driving. Lausten said a passenger in that vehicle, 39-year-old David Trowbridge of Omaha, was also arrested on an unrelated felony warrant out of Sarpy County.

Police took both men into custody. The officer, who has not been identified, went to the hospital in a private vehicle to be checked out.

Southbound lanes of 84th Street were closed as of 8:30 Wednesday night as the Sarpy County multi-agency team investigated the crash.
