Canadian Officer Killed During Traffic Stop

York Regional Const. Garrett Styles died after being pinned under a vehicle after he was struck Tuesday.

A York Regional police officer died after being pinned under a vehicle after he was struck during a traffic stop Tuesday morning, according to The Toronto Star.

Const. Garrett Styles, 32, stopped a vehicle at Herald Rd. and Highway 48 in the town of East Gwillimbury at approximately 4:50 a.m.

The seven-year veteran was transported to South Lake Regional Health Centre where he died of his injuries.

Police say the driver of the car has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries and at least one person has reportedly been arrested.

Styles is survived by his wife, Melissa, and two small children.

He joined the York Regional Police in December 2003 and became a constable in May 2004.
