Traveling evangelist Glynis Bethel, 48, was arrested in downtown Nashville on Saturday after police say she pepper sprayed an officer.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --

Traveling evangelist Glynis Bethel, 48, was arrested in downtown Nashville on Saturday after police say she pepper sprayed an officer.

According to police reports, the trouble started when a police sergeant put out a disorderly conduct call at the corner of 2nd Avenue North and Broadway.

Police said Bethel pepper sprayed a woman without provocation.

According to the reports, Bethel tried to leave as officers were gathering information.

Sgt. Robert Haught said that Bethel sprayed him in the face as he tried to stop her.

Bethel was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault and assault of a police officer.

She was jailed on $10,000 bond.

As of 3 a.m. on Sunday, she had not been released.
