LAKE COMO, Fla. --

A shootout in Putnam County killed a man and sent a law enforcement officer to a hospital on Thursday, authorities said.

Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said a task force operation was under way involving authorities from several agencies when the shooting happened.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Agent Dominick Pepe said undercover officers were trying to buy guns and drugs from a couple of men when the shooting broke out.

Deputy Hansel Woods said one officer was shot, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Pepe said one of the men believed to be involved in the shooting was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man was shot in the neck and taken to a hospital, where his condition is still unknown.

A search for a third person resulted in an arrest, police said.
