COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --

A man who was seriously injured after an acquaintance was arrested on a charge of DUI is suing the Colorado Springs Police Department and the city of Colorado Springs.

Mitchel Anderson took a ride in February 2010 with a man he met at a bar while partying.

When officers arrested the driver on suspicion of drunken driving, Anderson said police told him to take a walk, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

The newspaper said about an hour later, Anderson walked into the path of a car and ended up with 21 broken bones.

Anderson is suing, claiming he was so drunk that police should have taken him home or put him in protective custody.
