Wash. K-9 Killed While Detaining Suspect

Kane, a decorated police dog for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, was killed in the line of duty just after midnight Saturday.

CLARK COUNTY, Wash. --

Kane, a decorated police dog for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, was killed in the line of duty just after midnight Saturday.

The Sheriff's Office said deputies were pursuing two people that hit a patrol car in a stolen vehicle.

Kane was then sent to detain one of the people when he was stabbed, deputies said.

Kane was taken to St. Francis Animal Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A SWAT team responded to the scene of the crime to apprehend the perpetrators. Both were caught and booked into Clark County Jail awaiting charges.

The Regional Major Crimes Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation.

The Sheriff's Office said Kane was a decorated K-9 who served the community for 6 years. He was scheduled to retire next year.
