FLORENCE, Ariz. --

A Pinal County deputy had a really good day last week and is being credited for saving two lives.

Deputy Robert Taylor was on patrol last Thursday when a 911 call came in from Eloy, reporting an 8-month-old choking. Taylor rushed to the scene, found the baby not breathing. He started CPR and got the child breathing again. The baby was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

About 45 minutes later, someone called 911 to report they couldn't find an elderly man they were looking after. Taylor responded to the call, and while taking a look around the property, he heard a faint cry coming from a 15-foot-deep hole in the ground. Taylor found the 83-year-old man at the bottom, found a ladder, climbed down into the hole and carried the man out.

Medics arrived and treated the man. He was later taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Deputy Taylor undoubtedly saved two lives," Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said. "The actions of Deputy Taylor show the professional and caring nature of the men and women of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office. I am very proud of the immediate life saving actions taken by Deputy Taylor."
