JACKSON, Miss. --
A Jackson police officer was injured Thursday during a search for an inmate who walked away from a correctional center, the Hinds County Sheriff's Department said.
Eddie Charles Milligan, 24, walked away from the Restitution Center at 429 Gallatin St., the Sheriff's Department said. He was serving time for a burglary conviction in Forest County, according to a news release.
Officials didn't say how the officer was injured but did say that the injuries were minor. The officer was treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Sheriff's Department said.
Milligan was last seen in the area of Lynch and Newton streets. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and was wearing a blue jumpsuit, deputies said.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and Jackson Police Department are assisting the Mississippi Department of Corrections in the search for Milligan.
