Ariz. Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop

A Tempe Police Department motor officer attempted to stop a vehicle on speeding violations near Prince Road and Apache Boulevard, but the driver refused to stop.

TEMPE, Ariz. --

A Tempe Police Department motor officer attempted to stop a vehicle on speeding violations near Prince Road and Apache Boulevard, but the driver refused to stop.

The driver eventually stopped at 2323 E. Apache Boulevard. According to police, he refused to leave the vehicle at first. When he did, he assaulted the officer, police said.

The officer restrained the suspect, who was placed under arrest for aggravated assault as well as speeding.

Both the officer and the suspect were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
