Nebraska Trooper Dies Following Stroke

OMAHA, Neb. --

An eight-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol died Thursday following a stroke he suffered Feb. 23.

Officials said Parnell Matthews, 35, passed away at the Nebraska Medical Center around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

"This is a sad day for the Nebraska State Patrol Family. Parnell was a dedicated trooper, who loved his job and cherished his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time," Nebraska State Patrol Superintendent Col. David Sankey said in a news release.

The Matthews' family said they are thankful for the outpouring of love and support during his illness.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
