An Apopka officer fired shots at a suspect Thursday morning, police told WFTV. The shooting happened at the 500-block of Maudehelen Street out side the Meadows at Maudehelen subdivision.

Apopka police said they were looking for a bank robbery suspect out of Osceola County, but it is not known whether the suspect involved in the incident is the person they were looking for.

The officer was sitting in his patrol car when the suspect sped toward the officer's cruiser, Apopka police said. The officer jumped out of his patrol car and that's when the suspect tried to run him over, police said.

Investigators said the officer fired shots at the suspect, but it is not known whether the man was hit. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and it overturned and crashed, police said.

The suspect has been taken to the hospital, but his condition is not known.
