GILBERT, Ariz. --
When Gilbert police officers responded to a fight at a wedding, they thought they had calmed down the rowdy crowd.
But then the bride attacked the officers, kicking and fighting, according to Lt. Hugh White of the Gilbert Police Department.
Angela Davito, 28, of Mesa, was arrested in her wedding dress Saturday night after becoming disorderly, according to police reports. She charged an attendee at the reception and kicked a police officer, police said.
An unknown caller had reported that people in the backyard of a Gilbert home were “killing each other,” according to the report. Police said when they arrived they observed a large brawl.
When officers were ignored by the disruptive reception attendees, they had to spray them with pepper spray, which caused the guests to become angry and aggressive toward them, police said.
Several back-up officers were called to the scene and local firefighters attended to the people who had been hit with pepper spray, police said.
Davito was arrested on suspicion of assault and obstructing governmental operation, police said.
