WRITING STYLE
The best article is one that everyone can understand and answers all the questions posed. It should examine a current topic or new product/technique, exploring various facets of the issue and including input from practitioners and industry spokespersons. If your topic is of a general nature, try to include a sidebar (a shorter piece) on a specific angle. The average length for an article is 1,800 to 2,400 words.
Please query first with a written proposal (about two paragraphs) e-mailed to tabatha.wethal@cygnuspub.com. E-mail or call if you would like to discuss the details in more depth. Expect a response of two to four weeks on queries and two months on manuscripts.
Articles must include a short bio of the author and two lines about his or her expertise in the field or the company they are employed by.
The article should also include suggestions for the headline, deck, pull quotes and subheads (chapters) within the text. Photos with captions should also accompany the article, when there are images available. With any images, please submit a document that includes (for each image) a short description, cutline suggestion and photo credit information.
LET is always looking for good photographs to accompany articles. We prefer photo submission be sent digitally via e-mail in JPEG or TIF format and should not be contained within the Microsoft Word document. However, the photos can be 35mm slides and color transparencies, color prints or high-resolution (300 dpi) digital images, 4x5 inches in size.
FORMAT
Stories can be submitted on CD or via e-mail to tabatha.wethal@cygnuspub.com. Our preferred program is Microsoft Word, but we can translate other word processing software.
Please do not format the copy in any way.
Be sure to include on all submissions your address, daytime phone number, fax number and e-mail address.
