UCF seeks an individual to fill the Chief of Police position who has exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a police organization in a community that welcomes diversity of people and ideas.

This position requires satisfactory completion of an extensive background review and psychological examination. The incumbent must be able to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with all other university departments, local and state agencies, and the community while recognizing the University's individuality and its mission and goals. The incumbent must possess strong organizational leadership; have the ability to develop and carry out both long-range plans and short-term reactive operations; have considerable budgetary planning and financial management skills; and have extensive knowledge of and experience in public safety and law enforcement practices.

The candidate must also:

  • Possess a proven ability to lead, coach, and mentor subordinates physically, mentally and professionally.
  • Generate a clear mission and vision for the department: aligning people, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Be physically able to meet the demands of the job.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Florida or able to obtain certification within one year after the date appointed.

The position will report to the Associate Vice President for Administration and Finance.

Requires a master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 6 years of appropriate experience or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 8 years of appropriate experience is required.
