GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office invites applications for a Warden. Incumbent is responsible for the management, operation, planning, and direction of the Minnehaha County Jail and Community Corrections Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The hiring range for this position is $2,674.88 - $2,880.56 biweekly.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES INCLUDE:

Provide overall supervision and leadership in the administration and management of daily operations for a 400- bed capacity Jail and a 225-bed capacity Corrections Center. Ensure safety and security of inmates and compliance with applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and statutes. Supervise staff; provide work direction and oversight; and monitor work performance. Prepare and maintain jail operations budget including expenditures and revenue options and short- and long-range operational plans to meet goals and

objectives. Conduct interviews, recommend and approve new hires, and develop and approve training programs. Evaluate, recommend, and initiate disciplinary reports and actions; respond to grievances and other issues. Collaborate with other county departments, federal, state, judicial and local agencies or organizations, and the public to assess service needs and recommend new or revised policies and procedures. Conduct facility inspections; assess facility risks; and develop emergency plans and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field and five years supervisory or management level work experience and/or knowledge of jail/correctional operations (minimum of 200 beds). Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Thorough knowledge of principles, policies, procedures, codes, laws and statutes of law enforcement operations. Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly with tact and impartiality. Must be a credible witness in court. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong management capabilities. Law enforcement certified or eligibility to become certified. Knowledge of Minnehaha County Jail policies and procedures, South Dakota state law enforcement regulations, and other requirements applicable to SD jail operations. Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures and ability to oversee budgets and achieve a clear understanding of County budget management.
