Don’t Look…

A Gift Horse In The Mouth
Just recently I’ve run into a situation where a number of people, using a totally free service, have decided that the service isn’t being provided the way they’d like, so they’re complaining about it. Of those complaining only one has offered to PAY for the service if said service would be modified to his desires, but the remainder of them - those complaining - complained even louder at the thought of having to pay for it.
So, let me get this straight: You’re taking advantage of a free service; don’t 100% like the service provided; keep using the service; and refuse to pay to “upgrade” it to your liking. Hmmm… can you say hypocrite?
It’s a rare occasion in this world that we get anything for free anymore. The service in question is provided to the users totally free. Advertising dollars generated as a side effect of the service are what pay for the cost of providing the service. Imagine - if you will - this as a daily newspaper that you never had to pay for. Heck, it is essentially like MSNBC or CNN online. You can go there; read the news - and not pay for a subscription. If you don’t like the news that THEY are posting, you’re free to find another news site, right?
Why would you sit around and post comments on their site complaining that they aren’t reporting on the news YOU want?
Can anyone help me understand this idiocy? Or is it simply that some people are never happy unless they have something to complain about?
What do you think?
I agree with you completely, but I’m going to argue the fact that why is this posted under Frank Borelli on Law Enforcement?
–> Or is it simply that some people are never happy unless they have something to complain about? <–
Frank, I believe you hit it on the head with that line!
Being satisfied with something feels a lot like inertia to some people, and approving of what someone else did, does or is doing is dull (hey, pretty cool for accidental alliteration, huh).
Sad thing is, for A LOT of people anger and dissatisfaction feels good, or is the only thing that gives them energy. Perpetual outrage is in.
Mr. Borelli, are you referring to the fact that as of late, a majority of the stories on a VERY pro LE website have been about police officers being arrested and/ or committing illegal acts as opposed to informative or enlightening publications of this said profession?
Pat;
Actually, no. I have recently had the experience of seeing a whole group of people, who daily enjoy and use a FREE service, complain almost daily about how that service is provided. It’s even funnier to see and hear those complainers threaten to go use a different service. As if the group providing the free service is going to complain about fewer people using it? The service is provided either way and users will always be there. It just struck me as odd… and worth commenting on.
And, I should state: it’s a sad fact that there are police officers who break the law. If any website has a section for Internal Affairs / Police crimes type of stories, then you’ll see them there.
Oh, well to quote Ron White: “You can’t fix stupid”. As of late, there have been a LOT of stories of officer wrong doing on the main page of this website. I thought you were commenting on that.
I think it goes along with the sense of entitlement a lot of people have these days. No one feels like they should PAY for things, they feel they somehow deserve to get them free of charge. It doesn’t matter how much work goes into it on the other end. There’s a mentality that their interest in said product (free social networks, free information, etc.) is somehow worth something and their mere presence is enough to encourage that business to do their bidding.
I’m hoping there’s going to be a wake up call someday, but I’m not holding my breath.
In addition to being a full time police officer I have an Internet marketing company. You should thank the whiners for their input and then suggest they start their website. They can include all the features they want in the way they want them. Then they can learn to compete on the Internet. This way they will be too busy to complain. My not original thought for the day - Those rowing the boat are generally too busy to rock it. Keep up the good work.
Apparently complaining is a guaranteed right…. look to our agencies for a prime example. Come in bitchin’ and can do it all day without hitting the same topic twice. Something is wrong when you’re that miserable! This is fun, remember? Frank, the website & the free services are much appreciated, thank you.
As for the hot topic on cops screwing up & getting arrested - about time somebody cleaned the stables. Head in the sand won’t work anymore. Its good to put a face on the consequences of going bad, pretending it doesn’t happen isn’t a deterrent. I’ve seen several from my agency lately that have left in cuffs - and it’s doing wonders for the morale of the officers that actually work, hard, every day.
