Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Recovering Following Head-On Crash

Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Mike Krukowski, who sustained two broken bones in his left arm and two broken feet, underwent surgery Wednesday at Hennepin County Medical Center.

A Minnesota State Patrol trooper is recovering following a head-on crash with another motorist Tuesday night.

Sgt. Mike Krukowski, who sustained two broken bones in his left arm and two broken feet, underwent surgery Wednesday afternoon at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, according to a news release.

"Everyone, thank you for your prayers and support," Krukowski said from his hospital bed in a video posted by the department on Facebook. "I'm looking forward to getting out of the hospital. It'll be a bit of a journey, but I'm going to make a recovery."

The trooper's wife, Crissy, relieved that her husband's injuries weren't worse, told officials "He's very lucky."

The 35-year-old trooper was driving his Ford Explorer partrol vehicle on southbound on Kenrick Avenue near 205th Street when he was struck by a 2012 Chrysler 200 traveling northbound on I-35 in the right lane.

Offiicals said that the car was driving at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road to the right, went through the freeway fence and struck Krukowski's vehicle head-on.

The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 29-year-oldWesley Paul Briggs, was airlifted to North Memorial with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash, including whether there the driver was impaired, is currently under investigation.
