Auburn Hills, MI & Plano, TX – August 16, 2018 – LEID Products, LLC, the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today announced the successful implementation of its Access.it Evidence System into the Plano Police Department in Plano, Texas. The system provides secure, digital chain-of-custody tracking for over 2,500 pieces of evidence each month. The department has over 300 officers who have benefitted from the system’s ease of use and more reliable handling of sensitive evidence such as DNA and firearms.
In 2014, the Plano Police Department of Plano, Texas underwent a large-scale renovation. Working with Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects, they chose LEID Products’ Access.it Evidence System to replace the outdated key and lock system. This locker system is specifically designed to provide an extremely secure chain of custody during the critical short-term evidence storage period with the convenience of self-service drop-off and pick-up.
The new system has provided Plano PD’s officers with a wide range of locker sizes and mail slots to use at their convenience, preventing lockers from filling up. The card reader and barcode system that the department chose has proven to be user-friendly with a short learning curve.
“We could not be happier with the system,” said Christi Wilson, Plano PD’s Property/Evidence Unit Supervisor, who has been in the department for 29 years. “We are taking in lot more firearms and DNA than we ever have, so security was a huge priority for us when looking for a new system. This system has met and exceeded our expectations. We particularly love that it is user-friendly, web-enabled, easy to maintain and to keep clean. I am already recommending the lockers to local police departments.”
Plano PD hopes to install the LEID system at the two offsite evidence collection locations, which would provide virtual visibility and prevent unneeded collection trips.
