Illinois Police Department to Live Stream Responses to Calls

Nov. 3, 2017
Palos Park Police Officer Ross Chibe's responses to 911 calls will be live streamed on Facebook.

An Illinois police department plans to stream the responses of one of its officers live on Facebook tonight.

Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller told CBS Chicago that for the past three years, his department has used Twitter to give people a glimpse into the job is like through photos and descriptions.

After having success in connecting to the community through suck "virtual ride-a-longs," he wanted to take the experiment a step further.

Ten-year veteran Officer Ross Chibe will be joined by a cadet who will use an iPad to stream his responses on Facebook Live when his shift begins at 6 p.m. on the night of Nov. 3.

The department's aim is to share the realities of the job with the public and show that it isn't as easy as they may think it is.

"Friday is traditionally a busier night, just because more people are out. Traffic is heavier. Everything from car accidents to people engaged in disputes after a few drinks," Miller told the news station.

As far as negative comments they may receive on the live stream? The chief said they are prepared.

"The reality is that we have a job to do in a free society. It’s not an easy job, and that's really the purpose of doing things like this is to show people, it may not be as easy as you think it is,” he said."
