Imagine all the Officers

Nov. 4, 2013
The good news is that we really don’t have to IMAGINE what it would be like to have a device that could host the software that turns critical data into useful information. We already have devices and software out there that can manage this for us. So why are large municipalities spending millions of dollars to analyze, filter and display this data?

Imagine this…a Traffic Officer has access to all accident reports, and is able to view a report on the time of day most speeding tickets were issued on a stretch of highway in an assigned patrol area.

Imagine this…a Patrol Officer knows what open arrest warrants there are in a particular community, and where parolees or high-risk sex offenders live.

Imagine this…an Officer on a beat can retrieve all of the information from the department’s record management system (RMS) directly from their mobile device.

This data is out there, it does exist…in fact it’s in your RMS system, it’s at the Department of Transportation (DOT), at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and in court records. It’s all there, and it’s BIG data folks!   The availability of and access to this data for front line Officers, supervisors and detectives can improve public safety, operating efficiencies and the overall situational awareness of the Officer.  Put simply, utilization of this kind of data can save money AND lives.

Okay, that was fun.  This time let’s talk about devices – then we can put it all together and see what we’ve got.

Imagine this…a smartphone exists that is sleek in design, yet rugged enough for the front lines.  It has an integrated barcode scanner for reading identification cards and driver’s licenses.  It can even take pictures or capture a signature.

Imagine this...Your department can manage these smartphones remotely, based on user security or location.  This includes field updates and changes that need to be made across the board.  And all applications are cloud-based, so there’s little risk to security should the device be lost or stolen.

The good news is that we really don’t have to IMAGINE what it would be like to have a device that could host the software that turns critical data into useful information.  We already have devices and software out there that can manage this for us. So why are large municipalities spending millions of dollars to analyze, filter and display this data? There are cloud-based solutions available with a super short ROI (return on investment). At L-Tron, one of our favorite bundles happens to be Honeywell’s Dolphin™ 70e Black, with the CrimeView® NearMe software app and Honeywell’s Remote Mastermind Device Management Software.

With the Dolphin Black and CrimeView technology, Police Officers can retrieve all of the information pertaining to them in a graphic, easy-to-interpret display.  They can use the same type of technology to display Law Enforcement data that we use to pull up a list of nearby restaurants or gas stations -- with attached maps (yes, it’s THAT easy). Think about switching from “map view” to “satellite view” or even to “street view” for a drive-by view.  It is an intuitive way to display lots of information graphically, and this technology is able to empower our frontline Officers and Detectives to help them make informed decisions faster.  This solution is also a secure one – allowing access only to officers and administrators who are authorized to have it.

Why should you consider this technology?  Lots of reasons…

  • First responders will no longer go into dangerous situations blindly.
  • Officers will be able to display outstanding warrants, domestic violence, gun charges, stolen vehicles, high-risk sex offenders, arrests or incidents at any given address.
  • It’s powerful!  It improves Officer safety, public safety and potentially save lives.

“Okay, what’s the catch?” you say.  Believe it or not, as exciting as this “technology of enablement” is, another key feature is how inexpensive this solution can be.  The ROI can be huge given the time your Patrolling Officers spend now with research, dispatch, paper and pen – the cost of hand-writing misinterpretations, transportation time to/from the courthouse, and most importantly the safety concerns for Officers on the beat who may not know exactly what they are getting themselves into when they have to make a split-second decision based on immediate facts.  To summarize, a cloud-based data visualization and management tool can:

  • Improve accuracy and speed up data entry by reading information on IDs and licenses with a barcode scanning device
  • Reduce capital outlays and increase security of data by using cloud-based applications
  • Speed up the rollout and adoption of technology with the ability to remotely manage the devices
  • Decrease the amount of administrative time officers and IT departments spend on damaged equipment and device failures when the device being used is specifically designed to work well in harsh environments

So what are you waiting for?  Let us show you a demo of this amazing solution and see for yourself what your team can tackle with the right tools.  Contact L-Tron Corporation today at 800-830-9523 or email us and we’ll get you headed in the right direction.
