The singer from the disco band the Village People who dressed as a police officer was arrested Friday on charges of allegedly putting a knife to the neck of a woman who identified herself as his girlfriend, it was reported Saturday.
Victor "Macho Man" Willis, 55, was taken into custody on Judicial Drive in University City at about 4 a.m. on Friday, police told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
A woman called police and said a man had choked her, put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her. When officers arrived, they found Willis in a car and a woman outside, police said.
The woman told officers Willis had been abusive and was out on bail on an assault charge from February, according to San Diego police Sgt. Jim Schorr.
Willis was arrested in San Francisco last year on suspicion of drug possession after a traffic stop. He gave a false name at the time, and police did not realize who he was until he was fingerprinted.
"Our officers recognized him," Schorr said. "We knew we had the cop from Village People."
