Oceanside Chronicles – PD: Season 4, Episode 11

March 17, 2016
As Oceanside PD announces their new data storage and management system from Quantum, Despain enacts his plan to destroy The Breakers’ garage unit and everything inside it, including Breakers members.

Despain was ready.  He had formulated his plan.  He had double checked his maps, the schedule he’d built based on surveillance of various members of The Breakers.  The next 36 to 48 hours would be hard.  His operational tempo for the attacks would be brutal and he’d have little to no time for sleep.  He knew he could do it.  He’d done as much as 96 hours straight with no sleep in the past.  His only concern – and it was a small nagging voice WAY in the back of his head – was that he might slow down when he got around to attacking his final target.  He might not be at his peak when he took down the Breakers’ headquarters.  He didn’t doubt he could still take it down. He just worried that he wouldn’t survive that final mission.  He recognized and acknowledged the worry.  He just as quickly dismissed it.  As long as he finished that mission, even if he died in the process, he’d feel satisfied going into the next life; he’d feel that he’d done right by his daughter in avenging her murder.

Sgt. Saul Panadopolus couldn’t have been happier that particular morning.  After literally months of fighting with the agency’s administration (which meant Chief’s Aid and Chief of Police), and waiting for what he considered to be a waste of time as the agency went through an RFP and bid process, the agency had finally selected and was now installing the Quantum data storage and management solution.

Sgt. Panadopolus had already written up the Press Release and the agency’s Press Information Officer (PIO) had already agreed to release it to the local media and some online publications once the install was complete and the system was up and running.  The Chief had agreed to pose for some pictures to go with the Press Release.  Everything seemed to be going along well.

His one worry… not even a worry really, but more of a mild concern… was how well the data transition would work and how many bumps he might run into before the agency’s data storage and management was 100% on Quantum’s system.  What little concern he had about it was offset by the ready availability of a Quantum representative to assist with any questions he had and to help offer guidance to overcome any “speed bumps” he ran into.  All in all he was just quite delighted with himself and the agency’s final choice.

Eddie’s squad had the day off and they were happy for it.  As Eddie sat in his backyard, enjoying a rare day of warm spring sun, he sipped a cold beer and pondered the events of the past year.  It had been a busy one for his squad.

Transfers were normal.  New people joining the squad and others leaving was common and unavoidable.  It was one of those least liked but recognized as not optional parts of police work.  Personnel rotated.  The past year hadn’t been that easy though.  One of Eddie’s old squad mates, Keith Winston, had died, thankfully not on the job, but he had passed nonetheless.  That was probably the most impactful change Eddie remembered.  The old squad sergeant, Henry Daniels, had retired and made life a living hell as much as he could as he went out the door.  Eddie remembered that even after Henry was gone he was still writing letters of complaint to the Chief’s office; not about any other officer on the force, but only about officers on what had become Eddie’s squad; Henry’s old squad. What kind of jerk did that?

Jessica Porter, better known as JP, had transferred over to the beach patrol unit.
