DELTONA, Fla. --
A fugitive from Texas who has been on the lam for 20 years was arrested in Central Florida after he applied for a security guard license and submitted his fingerprints for a background check, deputies said.
Robert Dawson, 76, who assumed the name Robert Evans, was arrested Monday night at his Deltona home on charges of being a fugitive from justice and resisting an officer without violence.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Dawson's fingerprints were submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI for criminal history checks and the results showed that he was wanted for absconding from parole supervision in Texas in 1990. His original charge was burglary.
Authorities in Texas were contacted, and Volusia County sheriff's deputies were asked to check on Dawson at his home on Lydia Drive, the Sheriff's Office said.
Dawson told deputies that he had never been in Texas, but admitted that he was using an assumed name after being presented with the fingerprint evidence, deputies said.
Dawson was arrested and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on no bond, and he will be extradited to Texas.
