Virginia Sheriff's Deputy Shot; Suspect in Custody

A Floyd County Sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded while responding to a call Saturday.

A Floyd County, Virginia Sheriff's deputy was shot while responding to a domestic situation Saturday night.

The deputy was wounded after arriving at the residence around 8:30 p.m. and sustained a non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.

He was flown to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspected gunman was taken into custody.

"The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for our officers and our department," Floyd County Sheriff Brian Craig said in a statement. "We also would like to thank the numerous departments around us for offering their assistance."

The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the incident.
